Why does KWWL sometimes broadcast weather from Rochester? Your Call the Courier questions

Q: I was wondering if the Irish Fest committee would consider selling one-day tickets versus one ticket for the whole weekend. A lot more people might go if they can go one day instead of paying a huge amount for all three days and not following up on it.

A: Agnes Kress, the director of Iowa Irish Fest, said a weekend pass makes things easier for volunteers and festival goers by making entry and exit more efficient. She said the event’s ticket prices are in line or lower than other Irish festivals in the Midwest offering similar entertainment. Some of the bands who performed this year charge $30 to $65 dollars for tickets to their individual shows. Kress also noted there was a single-day pass for Sunday this year, or free admission with a canned food donation before 10:30 a.m.

Q: Who would I call at the city to see about filling the holes in the manhole covers in Waterloo? The streets are terrible. I know we’ve had a lot of hot weather, but still, every street you go on, some of them are bad enough to knock your steering out of line.

A: Aaron Scoby, KWWL’s general manager, said the switch to Rochester weather happens when the weathermen are taking vacation or sick.

A: The $9,000 figure mentioned in one of Rep. Ashley Hinson’s TV ads is not something Iowans apply for. She claims that with her vote approving the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” and other legislation has resulted in tax relief.
