A: Sports reporter Chad Harberts said all four of the Division I schools – Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Drake – have never made the NCAA Tournament in the same year. He said it would be difficult, but not impossible, for this to happen because Drake and UNI play in the Missouri Valley Conference together. Also, neither of those schools have many opportunities to play Power 4 Conference opponents, so the conference typically only receives one bid to the NCAA Tournament. In the past 32 years, the MVC has received multiple bids 17 times but only twice in the past 10 years. In 2021, Loyola-Chicago and Drake both received bids. In 2016, Wichita State and UNI both received bids.

A: KWWL still has a weekend newscast at 10 p.m. and meteorologists from The Weather Channel provide the local weather when local meteorologists are out or on the weekend. Aaron Scoby, KWWL’s general manager gave The Courier this statement about fewer newscasts: “We are doing everything we can to continue to serve the people of northeastern Iowa in this very difficult business environment, as every business owner and company understands, tough decisions must be made to stay in business. The best way for our community to help ensure that they receive local news is to support the local TV stations through advertising.”
