This year’s Leadership North Iowa class project Growing Up Local’s mission is to connect local youth with the many events, activities and opportunities happening throughout our communities and inspire them to get involved. During a Leadership North Iowa networking session with local groups and nonprofits, our class saw firsthand how many opportunities exist in North Iowa and how many organizations need support. Growing Up Local was created to help bridge that gap by promoting community events, volunteer opportunities and family-friendly activities that encourage youth involvement.
Efforts have started with a physical presence at one event a month as well as promoting all other community events via social media, school connections and other communications. In May, we hosted a booth at Band Festival where we connected with kids and families, had a great time playing Plinko and gave away carnival ride tickets. Look for us throughout the summer, as you will see a Growing Up Local presence at Cannonball Days, Community Health Center’s Back to School Block Party and other community events.
Growing Up Local is looking to connect with events, activities and opportunities happening across our community. With so much taking place, we want to hear about it. We’re here to promote, participate, support, encourage and celebrate the youth who make our community thrive as they grow up local.
