WATERLOO — After finishing as the Class 2A runners-up last season, the Waterloo East girls’ bowling team will return to state next week as the No. 1 qualifier after Tuesday’s regional competition.

East posted a score of 3,031, led by Abbie Williams’ 203-267 – 470 that was the top score in qualifying across the state. Ashlee Snapp rolled the second-best score with 232-204 – 426 and Soleil Morgan qualified fifth with 170-253 – 423.

In Class 3A, the Waterloo West girls and boys both advanced. The girls had the fifth best score of the day (2,620) while the boys were the final team in their class with 3,058.

West’s Marissa Gates’ 233-203 – 436 was good for fourth overall while Hunter Holman’s 253-257 – 510 topped the field at the regional contested at Cadillac Lanes. Andrew Turner will also represent West in the individual competition.

Other metro and area team qualifiers include the Charles City boys and girls, Waverly-Shell Rock’s boys. Individually, Noah Reams, Kaleb Ross and Aryah Nelson of Charles City advanced, along with Noah Jepsen of Waverly-Shell Rock, and Cole Weber and Jennifer Weber of Waterloo Columbus.

The state tournament will take place Monday (Class 1A), Tuesday (2A) and Wednesday (3A) at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
