CEDAR FALLS — The Mississippi Valley Conference girls finished up the indoor track season Tuesday night in the UNI-Dome, and the local coaching staffs were generally pleased with the way their teams performed.

“This was a great night of competing,” Cedar Falls head coach Kara Bearbower said. “It was cool to see the girls go out and not really worry about their times. I was happy to see the girls actually run through the finish line, having great exchanges and just having fun.

“I think this team is getting there and they are really pushing themselves.”

The Tigers racked up 11 top six finishes on the night.

Emerson Green won the long jump, Allison Flanscha took fifth in the shotput, Mackenzie Michael finished second in the 800 and Jules Fromm was sixth in the 3,000.

Sophomore Mackenzie Michael stretched just enough to beat out Kaylee Osterberger of Dubuque Wahlert for second in the 800.

The Tigers also claimed first in the shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays, second in the distance medley and sixth in the 4x100. Grace Burken was fifth in the 60 hurdles, while Paige Kvale and Arianne Kimbrough finished third and sixth, respectively, in the 600.

Waterloo East made waves, as well, as the Trojans captured five top five finishes. Amanee Clark led the way with a 7.91 run in the 60 dash, a split second ahead of teammate Shamya Jenkins.

“I was just wanting to come in tonight and beat some of my records and do my best,” Clark said.

Jenkins also grabbed a fifth-place finish in the long jump. Alanna Muhammad jumped to sixth-place in the long jump and took fifth in the 200.

“I thought we competed very well tonight,” East coach Richard Carter said. “I was a little worried going in because we have some injuries and girls gone for spring break. The girls ran hard and ran well and some of the girls showed me more tonight than they have in practice. Now I know what to expect of them. We’ll take some time off and get healthy and ready for the outdoor season.”

Waterloo West had four top five finishes in the relay events.

“We have a lot of experience in the relays and it was nice tonight to throw some girls in there that do not have a lot of experience,” Wahawks coach Joe Malsam said.
