CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Falls went on the road and posted its first doubleheader sweep of the softball season Thursday at Cedar Rapids Washington.
The Tigers scored three times in the top of the seventh and then held off the Warriors in the bottom half of the inning to win the opener of the Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader, 4-2.
Cedar Falls (4-12) then broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth and finally put the Warriors (0-14) away with two late runs in the seventh to complete the sweep, 7-4.
LINN-MAR 4-14, WATERLOO EAST 1-0: Waterloo East couldn’t come up with a big hit in the opener, and Linn-Mar piled up 16 hits in the nightcap as the Lions swept the Trojans in a Mississippi Valley Conference twinbill.
Linn-Mar (8-8, 8-4) scored four times in the third inning of the first game before Kenidi Adams drove in a run for East (4-8, 4-6) in the sixth to make it 4-1. The Trojans then loaded the bases with three straight two-out hits in the seventh, but were unable to cash in.
Jayden Bentley, Lexi Wroe and Josie Stocks each had two hits for East.
In the second game, the Trojans had just four singles while hits fell in everywhere for the Lions, who scored multiple runs in four of the five innings.
