WATERLOO — Cedar Falls senior Hannah Bermel broke a 16-year record set by former Waterloo West standout Jenny Heinz as the Tigers capped another dominant run to a metro girls’ golf championship Thursday afternoon at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course.
Hannah Bermel finished with a 3-over-par 38 for a four-round record cumulative total of 152. Mackenzie Roberts of Cedar Falls was Thursday’s medalist with a score of 37.
Roberts placed fourth overall with a score of 165 as two more Tigers were in between her and Hannah Bermel. Taylor Sernett shot a 163 over four rounds to finish runner-up and Hailey Bermel was third at 164.
Waterloo West was led by senior Hannah Zikuda’s 179 total and Clare Rolinger of Cedar Falls rounded out the first all-metro team with a 181.
Megan Sawyer of Cedar Falls turned in the top second-team score of 182, while West’s Mary Smith and Brynn Bengston were also second team finishers. Caitlin Heine and Maddie Randall of Columbus along with Ashlee Snapp of Waterloo East were named to the second team.
Cedar Falls shot 156 Thursday and won the four-round team title at 644. Columbus was second with an 807. Abby Ward led the Sailors Thursday with a nine-hole 43.
