GARNER Crestwood covered 30 yards on its final play to pull off a thrilling 12-9 road win at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Friday night. Cadet quarterback Jon Henry connected with Clayton Ollendieck for the winning touchdown as Crestwood flipped the outcome of this contest in its favor.

Crestwood (4-3, 4-1 district) held a slim 245-231 edge over G-H-V (4-3, 3-2) in total offense. Henry completed 7 of 14 passes for 130 yards.

DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 16, ROLAND-STORY 0: Dike-New Hartford remained in the playoff hunt by posting a valuable shutout in a showdown of District 3 teams that entered Friday with one district loss.

D-NH gained an advantage in the first half on a 41-yard pass play from Drew Sonnenberg to Cade Fuller. Fuller later moved over to quarterback and hit Cade Bennett for a 42-yard touchdown. A safety from a mishandled snap set the final score.

Sonnenberg finished 3-for-3 passing for 84 yards and a touchdown. D-NH improved to 5-3, 4-1 district, while Roland-Story fell to 3-4, 2-2.

HAMPTON-DUMONT 14, FOREST CITY 0: Hunter Sutter carried the ball 24 times and gained 178 yards to lead Hampton-Dumont to its first win of the season. Sutter, a 5-10, 190-pound senior, opened the scoring with a 98-yard run in the second quarter and finished it with a 4-yard run with 54 seconds remaining to play.

Hampton-Dumont (1-4, 1-6) had 340 yards total offense while limiting Forest City (0-5, 0-7) to 102.

WAUKON 10, UNION 2, POSTPONED: No. 8 Waukon held a touchdown lead over No. 10 Union in a key district showdown before play was postponed with 4:34 left in the second quarter.

Waukon running back Mitchell Snitker scored the game’s lone touchdown from the goal line. Each team tallied a safety in what was shaping up to be a strong defensive battle.

Play will resume 7 p.m. Monday at Upper Iowa.

Class 3A

DECORAH 49, SOUTH TAMA 6: Kailer McCabe and Jake Muhlbauer each ran for a pair of touchdowns as Decorah jumped out to a 42-0 lead and earned a road win at South Tama.

Muhlbauer finished with 120 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. He also ran the game’s opening kickoff back 87 yards for a touchdown. Decorah’s defense recovered three fumbles, and Drake Shelton recorded an interception for the Vikings.

Class 1A

DENVER 49, MFL-MARMAC 0: Denver senior Sam Joerger reigned supreme as the Cyclones shut out MFL-MarMac, 49-0, Friday night in a game called due to weather conditions at the end of the third quarter.

The 6-0, 180-pound Joerger had 18 carries and gained 184 yards and scored four touchdowns. In addition, he was named as the homecoming king.

Senior Mason Tierney capped the scoring on a 34-yard interception return.

The No. 9 rated Cyclones gained 327 yards rushing as they improved to 5-0 in the district and 6-1 overall. The Bulldogs are now 0-5, 2-6.

Class A

NASHUA-PLAINFIELD 14, GRUNDY CENTER 13: Despite being held to 71 yards of total offense, Nashua-Plainfield managed a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to edge Grundy Center.

Levi Enright helped swing momentum in Nashua-Plainfield’s favor by returning the opening kickoff of the second half 91 yards for a game-tying touchdown followed by a Tristen Brase’s go-ahead conversion run. After Grundy Center regained the lead on Caleb Kuiper’s 28-yard run, Mason Hyde caught a 5-yard pass from Dayton Hansen to put the Huskies in front for good.

Kuiper led Grundy Center (3-4, 2-3) with 31 rushes for 187 yards and both touchdowns. Nashua-Plainfield improved to 5-2, 4-1 district.

WAPSIE VALLEY 34, STARMONT 0: Wapsie Valley ran for 329 yards and five touchdowns as the Warriors (7-0, 5-0) closed in on a district championship.

Colin Schrader led Wapsie’s rushing attack with 11 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Tanner Sauerbrei added 100 yards and a score on five rushes. Jake Kuhlman and Paul Rundquist also found the end zone as five different players contributed to Wapsie’s rushing total.

Kuhlman and Austin Schares led the defense against winless Starmont with five tackles apiece. Schares also recovered a fumble.

SAINT ANSGAR 44, MASON CITY NEWMAN 0: Four different rushers combined for six touchdowns as No. 8 Saint Ansgar imposed its will.

Dayton Smith led the Saints with 25 carries for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Josh VanVliet added 110 yards on nine rushes as Saint Ansgar finished with 481 rushing yards.

Defensively, Saint Ansgar (6-0, 4-0 district) held Newman (4-3, 2-3) to 94 total yards of offense.

8-player

AGWSR 38, CLARKSVILLE 0: AGWSR did its work early during a weather-shortened win over Clarksville.

Lucas Starr ran for a touchdown and caught another scoring pass while Joe Wiarda returned an interception for a 5-yard touchdown in the opening quarter. AGWSR’s Alec Stahl and Liam Stubbe added second quarter touchdown runs of 33 and 15 yards, respectively.

The game became official with 2:58 left in the third quarter. AGWSR tallied 120 rushing and improved to 4-3, 2-2 district. Clarksville fell to 2-5, 1-3.

NORTHWOOD-KENSETT 32, TURKEY VALLEY 20: Colton Moretz gained 180 yards on 41 carries and scored twice as Northwood-Kensett improved to 3-2 in the district and 3-4 overall.

For the Trojans, Cale Reicks ran 65 yards for a touchdown, had a 17-yard touchdown pass reception and returned a punt for 43 yards for a TD. Quarterback Ethan Leibold was 8 of 21 passing for 119 yards, but also had a pair intercepted. Turkey Valley is now 1-3, 4-3.
