SUMNER — Second-ranked Waterloo Columbus swept a North Iowa Cedar League doubleheader from Sumner-Fredericksburg Monday, 10-1, 7-2.

In the opener, the Sailors collected 16 hits as Taylor Hogan, Sydney Schultz and Kayla Sproul each went 3-for-4. Sproul drove in four runs while earning the win in the circle.

In the night cap, Columbus (12-1) scored three runs in the first powered by a Schultz two-run home run.

Sproul won again as she allowed just five hits, walked none and struck out five.

The Sailors return to action tonight at Don Bosco.

Sumner-Fredericksburg freshman Landree Kobliska doubled in the opener, and had a double and home run in the second game.

Senior sweeps East

DUBUQUE — Dubuque Senior limited Waterloo East to five hits in a pair of games as the Rams swept the Trojans, 5-3 and 11-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader Monday.

Senior used a big four-run third in the opener to take a 5-0 lead as the Rams held off a late Trojans comeback.

East scored three times in the top of the sixth, but that was most of the offense the Trojans (4-12 overall, 4-8 MVC) mustered.

Senior Bri Netty went 3-for-6 on the night, including 2-for-3 with a double and RBI in the first game.

East returns to action tonight at Cedar Rapids Xavier.
