JESUP — Waterloo East went 0-2 on the first day of the Jesup Invitational Saturday.

The Trojans dropped a 8-6 game to West Branch in their opener, a game that because of time-limits was played using the California rule in the seventh-inning when West Branch scored twice in the top of the inning to take the inning.

West Branch had rallied to tie the score with three runs in the sixth as MacKenzie Heise hit for the cycle and drove in three runs.

East was led by Lexi Wroe, Bri Netty and Kenidi Adams, all whom drove in a run. Netty was the only Trojan with two hits.

In its second game, East took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jayden Bentley scored on Netty’s sacrifice fly. But it was all Ed-Co thereafter as the Vikings scored six in the third and eight in the fourth.

CEDAR FALLS — Cedar Rapids Xavier outslugged and outpitched Cedar Falls Friday en route to a doubleheader sweep at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.

The Saints banged out 15 hits in the opener to win 13-4, before Aaron Bartels and Bryson Bastian combined for a three-hitter in the night cap.

In the first game, Cedar Falls was led by Mitch Young and Tate Johnson. Young was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Jack Steffener and Cael Loecher also had RBIs.
