CEDAR FALLS 61, CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY 39: Fifth-ranked Cedar Falls shut down Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s offense and cruised past the Cougars 61-39 in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls’ basketball game Friday.

The Tigers (11-1 overall, 6-1 MVC) jumped out to a 19-2 first-quarter lead. Ten players scored for Cedar Falls, led by Cynthia Wolf with 16 points.

CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON 79, WEST 71: Cedar Rapids Washington snapped a three-game losing streak and ended Waterloo West’s three-game winning streak, 79-71.

West trailed just 49-46 in the second half, but couldn’t keep up with a hot-shooting Warriors team that made 12 total 3-point baskets.

Tahya Campbell led all scorers with 27 points and Aliyah Robinson added 19 for West (7-6, 2-5).

EAST 65, DUBUQUE WAHLERT 62: Waterloo East put together a strong second half to overcome a six-point halftime deficit and defeat Dubuque Wahlert 65-62 Friday.

Kerris Roberts poured in 22 points, Amanee Clark added 17 and Selena Collier pitched in 12 as the Trojans (4-10 overall) won their first Mississippi Valley Conference game of the season in seven tries. Wahlert slipped to 1-12 and 0-7.

DUNKERTON 54, WATERLOO CHRISTIAN 16: After jumping out to a 19-2 lead at the end of the first eight minutes, the Dunkerton girls coasted past Waterloo Christian.

Hannah Johnson led the Raiders (11-4 Iowa Star) with 13 points, while Carli Teisinger and McKayla Boeschen each added 11.

GMG 53, VALLEY LUTHERAN 23: GMG was a little too much for Valley Lutheran’s young squad as the Crusaders fell in Iowa Star action, 53-23.

Six players scored for Valley Lutheran (2-11), led by Emma Armbrecht with nine. Ardis White had 11 rebounds.

Boys’ basketball

WEST 59, CEDAR RAPIDS WASHINGTON 56: Waterloo West got a double-double from Carondis Harris-Anderson as the Wahawks edged Cedar Rapids Washington Friday, 59-56.

Harris-Anderson tallied 24 points and had 10 rebounds , four assists and two blocked shots. Isaiah Johnson added 13 points, including a 4-for-5 game from 3-point range, and Tyreek Green chipped in 11 with three 3-point baskets.

West improved to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Mississippi Valley Conference while Washington slipped to 3-10 and 1-7.

DUBUQUE WAHLERT 58, EAST 43: Waterloo East couldn’t get its offense untracked Friday in a 58-43 Mississippi Valley Conference loss to Dubuque Wahlert.

The Trojans trailed just 26-24 at halftime, but added just 19 second-half points as the Golden Eagles (2-9, 2-5) built a lead. Jovahn Holmes’ 14 points led East (4-8, 0-7).

Prep bowling

EAST, WEST SPLIT: East and West swapped prep bowling victories Friday at Cadillac Lanes.

The East girls assured themselves of remaining at least tied for the lead in the Mississippi Division of the Mississippi Valley Conference with a 2,664-2,425 win.

West’s boys returned the favor, topping East 3,040-2,673.

For the girls, East freshman Abbie Williams led all bowlers with a 419 series and a high game of 233. The Trojans improved to 6-2 while West is 4-3.

The West boys were led by Hunter Holman as the sophomore rolled a season high 256 enroute to a 474 two-game series. In the baker rotation, West (4-3) averaged 222.8 a game.

For East (2-6) , senior Bryce Staver (208 average) rolled a 440 series as he matched a season high 232 game.
