Dunkerton and Gladbrook-Reinbeck were among the area boys’ basketball teams that took another step forward on the Class 1A postseason tournament trail Tuesday.

Seventh-ranked Dunkerton jumped out to a big lead early and cruised past Postville 63-44. Four players scored in double figures for the Raiders (21-2), led by Brady Happel with 17 points and Dalton Burch with 14.

Dunkerton will face 11-10 Tripoli, a 46-43 winner over Turkey Valley, Thursday in a 7 p.m. district final in New Hampton.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck erupted for a 26-3 first-half run on the way to a 68-36 victory over North Tama. Caden Kickbush poured in 20 points and Jackson Kiburis 17 for the Rebels, who take a 17-6 record against Meskwaki Settlement School Thursday in LeGrand. Meskwaki defeated Belle Plaine 57-40.

In other Class 1A action Tuesday, Hudson (15-8) edged Rockford 38-34 to advance to a Thursday district final against Don Bosco in Parkersburg. The Dons improved to 19-3 with a 78-46 win over AGWSR of Ackley. Wapsie Valley also moved on by defeating Central City 58-36. The 17-7 Warriors face Ed-Co, a 61-47 winner over Central Elkader, Thursday in Oelwein.

In Class 3A substate games, Crestwood pulled off an upset by defeating Clear Lake 87-83 in double-overtime. The 9-13 Cadets ended the Lions’ season at 17-5 and earned a matchup at Northeast Iowa Conference rival Waverly-Shell Rock (16-6), which handled Humboldt 74-44.

In a girls’ Class 4A regional final, Mason City (14-9) defeated Waverly-Shell Rock 58-41. The Go-Hawks finished the season 16-7.

POSTPONEMENTS: Tuesday’s Class 5A girls’ basketball regional final between Dubuque Hempstead and Cedar Falls was postponed until today.

Second-ranked Cedar Falls (21-1), which has won 18 straight games, will host the Mustangs (16-6) at 7 p.m. with a berth in the state tournament on the line. The Tigers defeated Hempstead 64-41 back on Nov. 28.

Tuesday’s Class 2A boys’ district final in Denver pitting North Iowa Cedar League rivals Aplington-Parkersburg (21-1) and Dike-New Hartford (15-7) was also postponed to today at 7 p.m. The Falcons won both regular-season meetings.
