- Three Iowa State players were named to the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 football team Wednesday by media representatives who cover the league.
Cornerback Brian Peavy, defensive end JaQuan Bailey and running back David Montgomery represent the Cyclones.
Peavy is a three-time all-Big 12 performer and a preseason All-American who is the NCAA’s active leader in passes defended (35), and Bailey is coming off an honorable mention all-Big 12 season.
Montgomery ranked third in the conference in rushing yards per game last year at 88.2 while racking up 1,146 rushing yards, caught 56 passes and earned first-team all-Big 12 honors and All-America recognition.

- The 2017-18 Wartburg College women’s golf team has earned the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar GPA Award.
The Knights had the fifth-best team grade-point average among all NCAA Division III teams last season at 3.666. Only Ithaca, Carnegie Mellon, Transylvania and Misericordia finished ahead of Wartburg.
- The annual Cedar Valley Family Fun Day hosted by the Cedar Valley Walleye Club and Impact Outdoors is Sunday at George Wyth State Park.
Activities take place from noon-3 p.m. and include pedal tractor pulling contests, minnow races, kayaking, youth archery, giant inflatables, face painting and free hot dogs, walleye samples and refreshments. The first 100 kids 14 and under receive a free gift.
