CEDAR FALLS — A hot start and a strong finish carried the University of Northern Iowa volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Evansville Friday in Missouri Valley Conference action at the McLeod Center.
Set scores were 25-11, 25-23, 25-14.
On a night when UNI honored legendary former coach Iradge Ahrabi-Fard, the Panthers (22-6 overall, 12-2 MVC) hit a blistering .515 in the opening set and were never threatened.
UNI got off to a big lead again in the second set at 18-11, but Evansville (10-15, 4-9) responded and got within a point at 24-23 before Piper Thomas ended it.
A 10-1 Panther run broke open the third set and UNI cruised to its second sweep of the Aces this season.
Bri Weber led the Panthers with 12 kills and 10 digs, Thomas finished with 11 kills and Karlie Taylor added eight kills and nine digs. Heather Hook filled the stat sheet with 31 assists, eight digs and three blocks, and Kendyl Sorge recorded 10 digs.
