SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Northern Iowa had a pair of athletes advance to the finals as competition began at the NCAA Division I West Preliminary track and field meet.

Jacob Smith finished third in his heat (51.04) and 14th overall to grab a spot in the 400-meter hurdles finals, while Brette Correy posted the 16th-best qualifying time (2:07.83) and advanced in the women’s 800.

Panther JoJo McNair clipped the final hurdle and did not advance in the 400 hurdles, while Kassidy Sharp finished 19th in the high jump at 5 feet, 8.75 inches.
