Iowa State will be without senior guard Emily Durr when the Cyclones play at Northern Iowa tonight.
Durr suffered a knee hyperextension and a bone bruise Friday against South Dakota. She averaged 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season.
Don Bosco of Gilbertville’s Gable Fox has signed a letter of intent to wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa.
Fox is a three-time state placewinner at 106 and 120 pounds with a seventh-place finish as a freshman and thirds the past two seasons.
He is ranked 23rd on IAWrestle’s Fab50 list.
He won the Iowa USA Kids/Cadet Greco state championship in 2015, won the Iowa/USA Junior Greco and freestyle titles in 2015, finished second in both tournaments in 2016 and was second in freestyle last spring. He also placed third at the 2017 Northern Plains freestyle tournament.
University of Northern Iowa head softball coach Ryan Jacobs has signed seven players to letters of intent.
Five of the signees are Iowas. That group includes first-team all-staters Hannah Isley of Albia (infield) and Hannah Kelley of Davenport Assumption (pitcher), second-team all-staters Eric Oler of Cedar Rapids Jefferson (pitcher) and Hannah Wislander of Davenport Assumption (first base) and Ally Johnson of Linn-Mar (infielder).
In addition, UNI signed catcher and first-team all-stater Hannah Loving of Sioux Falls, S.D., whose club team won four straight state championships and whose high school team also won a state title.
She was incvited to play for Team USA’s Junior Women’s team.
Multi-sport standout Kamryn Shaffer of Ottawa, Kan., also signed with the Panthers.
Eight Hawkeye Community College soccer players have earned all-Iowa Community College Athletic Conference honors.
Making the all-league men’s first team was Leonardo Braga. Nikola Petrovic was selected to the second team and Abdoul Diaw and Kobe King earned honorable mention accolades.
Freshman Jovanna Suarez made the women’s first team after finishing with 18 goals and a league-best 41 points. Allison Keitel made the second team and Greta Koons and Jennifer Wessels received honorable mention.
