CEDAR FALLS — Strong pitching from a pair of former metro standouts and timely hitting carried the University of Northern Iowa to a pair of wins Friday as the Panthers opened their softball season at the UNI-Dome Classic.

Jaclyn Spencer (Waterloo West) fired a five-hit shutout as UNI blanked Southeast Missouri St. 7-0, and Brooke Craig (Waterloo Columbus) followed with a complete-game seven-hitter for her first career win as the Panthers defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay, 5-2.

Kennedy Bailey stroked a two-run single, while Brittney Roby and Tianna Drahn had two hits apiece for UNI in the first game.

In the second game, Roby and Sammey Bunch each went 3-for-3 with Roby driving in three runs. Kennedy Bailey doubled in a run.
