CEDAR FALLS — Missouri-Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead Sunday and Northern Iowa couldn’t catch up as the Panthers dropped their first softball game of the season, 4-3, to wrap up the UNI-Dome Classic.

The Kangaroos (2-3) nicked UNI starter Brooke Craig for a run in the first and three in the second.

Courtney Krodinger and Emma Olejniczak delivered five shutout innings of one-hit pitching after that, and the Panthers chipped away with a run in the third on Brittney Krodinger’s sacrifice fly and two in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Abby Downs and Kennedy Bailey’s single.

However, UMKC’s Olivia Fluehr held UNI hitless for the final 3 2/3 innings.

The Panthers head to Orlando, Fla., for the Diamond 9 Orange Blossom Classic Friday through Sunday.
