GRAYSON, Ky. --- Former National Football League and University of Northern Iowa receiving standout Mike Furrey has taken over the head coaching position at Kentucky Christian University, an NAIA school.
Furrey, 33, recently finished a seven-year NFL playing career, spending time with St. Louis, Detroit and Cleveland. He played in 94 career games as a pro, catching 221 passes for 2,298 yards and seven touchdowns. He began this season with the Washington Redskins, but concussion issues forced him to be placed on injured reserve.
Furrey played collegiately for two years at Ohio State before transferring to UNI.
Kentucky Christian first formed a varsity football program in 2008. The Knights, members of the Mid-South Conference, finished 0-11 last season.
