CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Former Northern Iowa linebacker and Green Bay Packer star Bryce Paup is reportedly coming back to UNI to coach.

The Green Bay Press Gazette is reporting that Paup, currently a coach at Southwest High School in Green Bay, is stepping down after six seasons to taken an assistant coaching job at UNI.

The paper is reporting that Paup told his team the news Monday night.

UNI football coach Mark Farley could not confirm the news when reached Tuesday.

The paper is reporting that Paup, 45, said last week there was a strong possibility he would return to Southwest for a seventh season, although he said he and Farley had been in contact with one another.

Paul, a native of Scranton, helped make Southwest one of the top teams in the Green Bay area, the paper reported.

He played at UNI from 1986-1989, and was selected by the Packers in the 6th round of the 1990 NFL Draft. In 1995, he joined the Buffalo Bills.
