VALPARAISO, Ind. — Allison Bitter scored in the 97th minute to lift Northern Iowa to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Valparaiso Sunday to set a new single-season wins record for the program.

It was the first goal of the season for the senior defender from Dubuque as the Panthers earned their 11th victory of the season, snapping a two-game skid as UNI improved to 11-3-1 overall and 3-2 in Missouri Valley Conference action.

The game was played a day after it was originally scheduled because of poor weather.

“I’m really happy for the team with the week that we have had,” UNI head coach Bruce Erickson said. “Our game on Tuesday was moved due to weather and then today as well. We put that aside and had one of our best performances this season.”

Sydney Hayden put UNI on the board first in the 13th minute, on an assist from Sarah Brandt. It was Hayden’s third goal of the season and Brandy’s sixth assist.

Valpo tied it in the 22nd minute on a goal from Cory Griffith.

UNI is next in action at Loyola on Saturday.
