  • Waterloo Black Hawk forward Solag Bakich has committed to Notre Dame, following in the footsteps of his father, Huntley, was a linebacker for the Irish during the Lou Holtz era.

Bakich came to Waterloo in a November trade and went on to skate in 49 games for the Black Hawks notching six goals and 18 assists. He also had a plus-10 plus-minus rating.

Track and field

  • The Division III National Outdoor Track and Field championship field was announced Saturday morning and Wartburg College had qualifiers named in seven women’s events and four men’s events.

For the women, Teylor Jones qualified in the 200, Aubree Taylor qualified in the 400 hurdles, Betsy Duehr in the 800, Ashlyn Bagge in the 5,000, Bagge and Carina Collett in the 10,000, Sam Holtz in the shot put and the 4x400 team of Duehr, Belle Tyynismaa, Jones and Taylor.

Bagge was an all-American in the 5,000 and 10,000 year ago, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively, in those events.

The 4x400 team has produced all-American finishes in 13 of the last 14 seasons, including seventh a year ago.

The men saw Casey Roberts qualify in the 800 and 1,500, Sam Pinkowski in the 1,500 and 5,000 and the 4x400 team of Famiek Cook, Dillon DeMott, Levi Dolphin and Alex Teig.
