WAVERLY — Ninth-ranked Wartburg College had four players score in double figures as the Knights overcame a halftime deficit to advance to the Iowa Conference women’s basketball championship game with a 82-67 win over Buena Vista Thursday at Levick Arena.

Wartburg advances to the conference tournament finals for the sixth time in school history and second time in three years. The Knights will host Luther College Saturday at 7 p.m. in the championship game with the winner earning the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Wartburg (24-2) trailed 37-35 at halftime, but took control of the game in the third quarter and put it away in the fourth quarter.

Katie Sommer led all scorers with 22 points on nine of 12 shooting while also dishing out eight assists. Miranda Murphy had 16, Aryn Jones 13 and Morgan Neuendorf 12.

Wartburg and Luther will be meeting for the third time with the two teams splitting the first two meetings with both teams winning on their home floor. The Knights won the most recent meeting, 77-54, on Feb. 8.

The Norse (17-7) advanced with a 65-62 win over Loras in Decorah.

Katie Waller had 17 points, and Laura Hamilton had 13 as Luther outscored the Duhawks, 16-11, in the fourth quarter. Loras’ Miranda Chapman missed a three-pointer with two seconds left that could’ve forced overtime.

Hamilton also had eight rebounds and a team best four assists against no turnovers.

In the men’s semifinals, Wartburg became just the second team in IIAC men’s tournament history to advance to the championship game as a No. 6 seed with a 92-89 upset victory over Loras in Dubuque.

Jaran Sabus scored 35 points on nine of 12 shooting from the field and nine of 10 shooting from the free throw line to lead the Knights (18-9). Wartburg shot 59.6 from the field in the game, 34 of 57.
