The City of Cedar Falls is seeking applicants to test for and hire from a Civil Service list for Communications Specialist. Salary range based on qualifications and experience: $53,622 - $87,131 with full-time benefit package. Under the general supervision of the City Administrator, individual will develop and coordinate all strategic communications, marketing and branding efforts for the City, work closely with City staff to promote a well-coordinated message promoting the City and special events through City’s website, public access channel, and social media.
Duties will include, but not be limited to, coordinating communication services and functions carried out by departments and provide guidance on effective methods and strategies to communicate with the public including promotion of city initiatives; develop and maintain effective working relationships with local and regional media contacts, and assist the Mayor, elected officials, and city staff in communications and interviews; coordinate city written communication to ensure consistency of brand identity and council goals; update daily social media sites for the city including city’s website, newsletters, and public access channel 15; and serve as City’s Public Information Officer and assist with special events such as groundbreaking and ribbon cutting events.

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
City of Cedar Falls is seeking applicants to test for and hire from a Civil Service list for Code Enforcement Officer. Hourly pay range: $19.34-31.43 with full-time benefit package. Under the general supervision of the Inspection Services Manager, individual will work closely with City staff, property owners, businesses, and the general public to provide assistance for inspection, investigation, abatement, and enforcement to ensure compliance with established codes, ordinances, and regulations affecting the public interest, safety, and welfare.
Duties will include, but not be limited to, field observation; sidewalks and snow removal, mowing, sump pump discharges, and other property maintenance or nuisance issues; abandoned vehicle marking and follow-up; communications with property owners, managers and tenants; reporting, logging, and recordkeeping; and maintaining positive public relations through excellent service and community involvement to ensure compliance. Individual will prepare and issue official notices, initiate appropriate legal proceedings and testimony related to code violations, recommend local ordinance changes, interact with neighborhood associations regarding enforcement issues, and stay abreast of pertinent codes and regulations.
