WATERLOO — A Crossroads Center-area location of a national restaurant chain has closed after 24 years in business here.
Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, located at the southeast corner of San Marnan Drive and Hammond Avenue, closed over the weekend, according to a notice posted on the door and the building’s owner.
The restaurant has had a lease at that location, 4045 Hammond Ave., since 1993, according to a representative for Lockard Cos., which owns the building.
An online search shows the chain has closed several of its restaurants in the Midwest, including a restaurant on First Avenue Northeast in Cedar Rapids last fall.

The Waterloo restaurant was reported closed previously but had resumed business with limited hours for a time, according to the notice posted on the entrance. A Call the Courier answer published Nov. 4 reported the restaurant did close for lunch last fall but continued to open at 4 p.m. daily and at 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The restaurant’s lease of the building extends through the end of March, said Dave Wilson, an executive with Lockard. He said his company is “actively marketing” the space to potential tenants.
A check of the company website shows no other Lone Star restaurants in Iowa but several in Illinois.
