WATERLOO | Police are investigating an accident Friday evening in which a van hit a house at Kimball and Reber avenues, apparently after attempting to elude police.

The incident, reported shortly after 6:30 p.m., apparently stemmed from an earlier family dispute, according to police. The van left a residence in the 900 block of Denver Street, continued on Forest Avenue to Kimball Avenue and up Kimball to the Ridgeway Plaza shopping center parking lot.

An employee of the Flowerama store there told Courier staff he had to run to avoid being hit by the van, which apparently struck an outdoor floral display and scattered flowers in the parking lot.

The van continued on Bellaire Road behind the shopping center, up Midlothan Boulevard and Ivanhoe Road back to Kimball and north up Kimball, striking a house in the 100 block of Reber Avenue, at Kimball's north end near Whittier Apartments. The police report states that at times his vehicle was going 70 mph.

Police said the driver, Andrew Brewer, 20, of 833 W. Second St., No. 301, Waterloo was examined and released from a local hospital after the crash and detained. He was arrested for eluding police, second-degree criminal mischief and numerous traffic citations. He remained jailed Saturday.
