GRUNDY CENTER | Authorities are investigating the death of jail inmate late Thursday.
The inmate was found unresponsive in a cell at the Grundy County Jail at about 9 p.m. Thursday. The inmate was transported to Grundy County Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted an investigation and identified the deceased as Jared Martin Slinker, 26, of Wellsburg, Iowa. Slinker was arrested Jan. 26, on an arrest warrant for contempt of court regarding a child endangerment charge in Grundy County.
An autopsy was conducted at the office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny Friday and determined the death to be suicide by hanging. Toxicology results are still pending. No foul play is suspected.
A DCI investigation is standard procedure for in-custody deaths.
