WATERLOO, Iowa --- A truck crashed through the front window of a convenience store this morning as part of an apparent burglary attempt.
Workers at the Kwik Stop at 4335 Texas St. said the shop was closed when the Jeep Comanche slammed into the storefront shortly before 4 a.m.
Employees said they believe the suspects were after an ATM machine that stood near the door. It was knocked over by the impact but was unopened.
A video redemption machine next to it was dragged out into the parking lot and was in pieces, and a pull-tab lottery machine was also knocked over with its window broken.
Workers said the burglars where unable to get to the cash register because the teller area is encased in a second set of windows.
The truck remained at the scene and was towed after police arrived. Investigators were reviewing the store’s surveillance tapes for leads.
