Video from a Charles City Police dashboard camera captured a young resident helping an elderly resident cross a street.

CHARLES CITY -- Driving in his police cruiser on Tuesday afternoon, Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson witnessed a random act of kindness and decided it was a video worth sharing.

Anderson captured the footage at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on his dashboard camera near the Apple Valley Assisted Living facility and posted it to the Charles City Police Department Facebook page.

The video shows a young man get off his bicycle, cross a street, and help an older adult carrying a bag walk back across the road near the assisted living facility.

The post had gotten more than 2,000 views by Wednesday afternoon and had been shared nearly 60 times.

Anderson told The Courier he sees a lot of negative things in society and he appreciated seeing people help one another.

"It was very, very neat seeing this young man, this young kid, decide to jump out on his own and help this gentleman across the street," Anderson said.
