WATERLOO — The Waterloo Water Works will flush hydrants Thursday in the area from West Ninth Street to La Porte Road between East Ridgeway and East Mitchell avenues.

Customers living within the area and within several blocks of the flushing area could experience water discoloration.

The water may be brownish during and immediately after the flushing, but the discolored water is bacterially safe.

has asparagus

WATERLOO — Asparagus will be featured at the Kimball Ridge Family Market on Saturday, open from 8 a.m. to noon in the Ridgeway Place parking lot, corner of Kimball and Ridgeway.

Baked goods, fresh eggs and homemade egg noodles also will be featured.

Also, shoppers will have a chance to enter a drawing for three free bunches of asparagus. Complimentary beverage and samples also will be available.

Used furniture

CEDAR FALLS — On Friday and Saturday, St. Vincent de Paul in Waterloo and Houses into Home in Iowa City will join with Art Van Furniture in Cedar Falls and Coralville to collect used furniture for the needy in eastern Iowa.

Art Van Furniture will accept used furniture as trade-in furniture and give shoppers a credit toward new furniture purchases.

All of the trade-in furniture will then be donated to St. Vincent de Paul in Waterloo. The “Houses into Homes” charity in the Iowa City area will be given any items donated to the Coralville furniture store.
