UNI Dining gets
2017 food honor
CEDAR FALLS -- The University of Northern Iowa Dining Services team was named 2017 Cedar Valley King of Local Food.
The award came from the Northern Iowa Food & Farm Partnership, an organization dedicated to promoting the development of a local and regional food economy that positively impacts local farmers, consumers and businesses through education, collaboration and economic development.
Members of NIFFP include local producers and growers, local food advocates, institutions and businesses, and government officials.
UNI Dining was recognized for its 20-year commitment to supporting local foods and producers. UNI was one of the first organizations to sign on to the concept of local foods as a viable option and movement; and to adapt its facilities and practices specifically in support of the movement.
Kamyar Enshayan, director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Education at the UNI, call UNI Dining “a force in demonstrating that it is possible and practical to buy from local farms and processors.”
