CEDAR FALLS — Two people were hurt in an accident involving a utility task vehicle at the Cedar Falls Raceway early Sunday.
Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the raceway, 7227 Waverly Road, about 12:15 a.m. on a report of a two-vehicle rollover crash. On arrival, it was discovered the crash actually involved a single vehicle.
A Can-Am Maverick X3 UTV, driven by Chad Kinkade, 46, of Waterloo, had left a paved road in the pits and entered a grass area. Kinkade made several sharp turns causing the UTV to roll on its passenger side, coming to a rest on its top. Several passengers sustained injuries during the crash.
Lisa Talaska, 52, of Janesville, was one of three passengers riding inside. She was extricated from the vehicle with a complaint of rib and wrist pain. Shelly Liddell, 39, of Cedar Falls, who was riding on the exterior of the vehicle, suffered a leg injury. Stan Talaska, 53, and Nicole Talaska, 28, both of Janesville, also were passengers inside the vehicle but were uninjured. Kinkade also escaped with no injuries.
Liddell and Lisa Talaska were taken to UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting at the accident was Sartori ambulances, Janesville First Responders, and Janesville Fire-Rescue.
