WAVERLY — If at first no one succeeds, go vote again.

Waverly voters will head to the polls again Dec. 5 to choose between incumbent Mayor Charles Infelt or semi-retired electrician Dean Soash.

Soash, who received 994 votes as a write-in candidate Tuesday, officially filed an affidavit of candidacy and will appear on the runoff ballot Dec. 5, said Bremer County Auditor Shelley Wolf.

Infelt garnered 1,010 votes, just shy of the 50 percent needed to claim outright victory.

Twenty-three other write-in votes were recorded.

The official canvass was certified Thursday afternoon, triggering the runoff election, according to Wolf, who released preliminary numbers Thursday morning.

Wolf noted all polling places and hours of operation will remain the same Dec. 5 as in Tuesday’s election.

Those polling locations and hours are as follows:

Ward 1: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Waverly City Hall, 200 First St. N.E.

Ward 2: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Waverly City Hall.

Ward 3: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Waverly Fire Station, 123 First St. S.W.
