WATERLOO — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andy McGuire announced a list of 11 new endorsements this week, including a couple of local Waterloo supporters.
Former congressman and former Iowa Democratic Party Chair Dave Nagle and the Rev. Frantz Whitfield, a pastor at Waterloo’s Mount Carmel Baptist Church, are among McGuire’s newest endorsements.
“When I listen to her speak, I feel passion, desire and a genuine concern for the people in our state,” Whitfield said in a statement. “That’s what we need in a governor, someone with a strong heart who cares about the future of our state. I don’t think that’s what we are seeing right now from the current administration.”

McGuire is a native of Waterloo. She is the former chair of the Iowa Democratic Party.
McGuire is one of seven Democratic candidates or likely candidates seeking their party’s nomination for governor in the June 2018 primary.
