CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa 1st District Democratic hopeful Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque has landed three more union endorsements.

Joining 10 other unions in endorsing Finkenauer, a second-term member of the Iowa House from Dubuque, were the Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers Local 81, United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States, and Boilermakers Local 83.

Finkenauer is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge 1st District Republican Rep. Rod Blum, also from Dubuque.

In endorsing her, the Heat & Frost Insulators noted her opposition last year to Republican changes to Iowa’s collective bargaining law and workers’ compensation.

In giving Finkenauer “our strongest endorsement, the Journeymen and Apprentices said that as the daughter of a 40-year member, she understands “how much labor does for our nation.”

The Boilermakers expressed confidence that in Washington, Finkenauer “will deliver for Iowa’s middle-class families.”

Finkenauer also has been endorsed by Emily’s List, NARAL and more than 20 elected officials and activists.

In addition to Finkenauer, George Ramsey III of Marion, Thomas Heckroth of Cedar Falls and Courtney Rowe of Cedar Rapids are seeking the Democratic nomination. Democrats are expected to select a nominee in the June 5 primary election. None of the four has filed nomination papers with the Iowa Secretary of State.
