HAMPTON, Iowa --- Leon Kuehner, retired band director at Hampton-Dumont High School, recently was picked as the National Federation of State High Schools outstanding music educator.
Kuehner will receive the award at the federation's meeting in July in Nashville and be honored at the 2012 Iowa All-State Music Festival Concert on Nov. 17.
Kuehner's bands consistently received top honors and his program was recognized as one of the most well-rounded in Iowa, according to Alan Greiner, executive director of the Iowa High School Music Association.
He conducted more than 100 honor and festival bands during his time as an educator.
