CEDAR FALLS — A new principal has been named to lead North Cedar Elementary School.
Katie Johnston, who is currently associate principal at Hansen and Lincoln elementary schools, will take the helm at North Cedar beginning with the 2017-18 school year.
“Katie’s experience makes her a great fit for North Cedar Elementary. We are excited for her to take this leadership role in the district,” Andy Pattee, Cedar Falls Community Schools’ superintendent, said in a news release.
“I’m very honored and excited for this opportunity,” said Johnston. “I look forward to working with the staff, students, families and community of North Cedar Elementary. I have a passion for working with students and hope to foster many relationships that encourage and promote student success.”
Prior to this school year, Johnston was an instructional coach and classroom teacher for nine years in the Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools. She holds masters degrees from both Viterbo University and Iowa State University as well as her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Wartburg College. Johnston and her husband, Nathan, have one daughter, Adele.
Current Principal Jennifer Hartman is resigning effective June 30 to become curriculum director at the American School of Bangkok in Thailand.
