WATERLOO — On Monday, Andrew Rogers, a Lou Henry Elementary fifth-grader and AAA patroler, was recognized as Iowa’s Patroler of the Year.
The award was presented by Connie Patava, AAA-Waterloo branch office field manager.
Each year, AAA awards the AAA School Safety Patroler of the Year. Only one patrol member per state earns this honor. Rogers was presented with a color granite plaque along with a $200 gift card.
In addition to keeping students safe, the program teaches lessons of responsibility, leadership and good citizenship. The patroler duties are a valuable contribution to the major reduction in pedestrian fatalities and injuries, and their daily achievements deserve to be recognized on a national level, AAA said.
