WAVERLY — Absentee ballots are now available for the Janesville Consolidated School District’s Feb. 6 bond issue referendum.
Voters in the special election are being asked to approve the issuance of $8.6 million in general obligation school bonds and authorize a property tax levy. The levy, totaling $4.05 per $1,000 of taxable value, will repay the bonds over 20 years. District residents can cast their ballots at the Riviera Roose Community Center in Janesville from noon to 8 p.m. on election day.
Absentee ballots must be requested in writing and may be cast at in the Bremer County Auditor’s Office in the courthouse, 415 E. Bremer Ave. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Absentee voting will continue there through 11 a.m. on Feb. 6.

Absentee ballots may also be cast by mail. Requests for ballots to be mailed must be received in the auditor’s office by 5 p.m. Jan. 26. Request forms are available at the auditor’s office and on the secretary of state’s web site at https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/pdf/absenteeballotapp.pdf.
Ballots requested through the mail must be returned to the auditor’s office before polls close on election day or be postmarked by midnight Feb. 5.
