INDEPENDENCE – A Raymond woman suspected in an Amish store robbery in July has been arrested.
Katie Lynn Wacha, 31, of 6301 Lafayette Road, was detained in the Des Moines area on warrants from Buchanan and Black Hawk counties. She was transferred to the Buchanan County Jail on Tuesday.
Warrants include first-degree robbery, intimidation and third-degree theft charges stemming from the July 30 stickup at Miller County Store, 1573 160th St.
Authorities allege Wacha and a man entered the store around 3:30 p.m., and the man was armed with a BB gun, and she allegedly removed cash and checks from the register while the man pointed the weapon at the clerk.
The day before the robbery, Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies had encountered Wacha and a man while investigating a trespassing complaint on Gilbertville Road. Their vehicle was similar to what would later be described as the getaway vehicle in the robbery, and deputies noticed a pellet gun in the vehicle, court records state.
The man hasn’t been charged in the robbery.
Court records state Wacha is the girlfriend of Dennis Wroe, who was arrested earlier this year for allegedly robbing stores in Waterloo and Raymond, and authorities searched Wacha’s Raymond home in August while investigating Wroe.
