WATERLOO – A Waterloo man has been charged with allegedly failing to disclose marijuana use when he bought a gun.
A federal grand jury in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday handed up an indictment charging Paris Clevonte Lyes, 22, with possession of a firearm by a drug user and false statement during a firearm purchase.
Court records allege Lyes didn’t tell employees at Scheel’s sporting goods that he used marijuana when he bought a 9mm Glock handgun on Aug. 26, 2016. In addition to the Glock, Lyes also possessed a .22-caliber Mossberg 715P handgun and a 7.62mm Romarm/Cugir Mini Draco pistol on July 19, 2017.
The indictment comes a month after Lyes was arrested on drug charges. Waterloo police pulled him over during a traffic stop in the 600 block of Logan Avenue on July 6 and found marijuana and scales, according to court records. He was arrested on state charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
