INDEPENDENCE -- On Saturday at about 10:10 a.m., Buchanan County sheriff’s deputies arrested Roderick Lamar Rottinghaus, 40, of Waterloo, for first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine (a serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (a simple misdemeanor).

The arrest was made after a deputy was asked to stand by during a child custody exchange in the parking lot of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue NE in Independence. The deputy observed signs on impairment on Rottinghaus and investigated, resulting in the discovery of drugs and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest.
