HUDSON | One man was taken to the hospital following a high-speed chase that ended when the fleeing vehicle rolled into a field just north of Hudson Saturday morning.

Authorities believe the vehicle, a red Chevrolet Trailblazer, was taken from a Waterloo address.

Crews with Hudson Fire Rescue removed Tanner J. Stewart, 18, of Ackley, from the Trailblazer and took him to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Authorities said he was conscious when they arrived at the crash scene, and his injuries don’t appear to be life threatening.

The chase started around 7:54 a.m. when a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol attempted to pull over the vehicle for a traffic violation near the post in Cedar Falls. The pursuit headed south on Hudson Road with speeds of up to 100 mph.

During the chase, the trooper was notified the driver was mentally challenged and had taken the vehicle without the owner’s consent.

The pursuit was called off, but a short time later the Trailblazer left the roadway in the 6500 block of South Hudson Road and rolled into a farm field.
