WATERLOO — Police have arrested a man in the case of a Waterloo teen who was found dead on a sidewalk over the weekend.

Brandon Donald Gordon, 22, of Evansdale, was arrested Tuesday for leaving the scene of an injury/fatal crash. His bond was set at $15,000.

Passersby found 16-year-old Tayshaun Jenkins face down on the sidewalk in the area of Vinton and Courtland streets Sunday morning. An autopsy performed Monday was inconclusive pending further tests, according to police.

Further investigation determined Tayshaun was likely the victim of a hit-and-run crash, according to police.

Authorities said the public was instrumental in the investigation, which remains ongoing.

It wasn’t immediately clear when the crash occurred.

Court records show Gordon was ticketed for driving while suspended early Sunday morning, before Tayshaun was found. Police found a silver Toyota Camry parked in the roadway with the engine running at about 3:55 a.m. This was in the 500 block of Elm Street, which is about four blocks from the Vinton and Courtland location.

The vehicle was registered to Gordon, whose license was suspended. He was cited and released on a promise to appear for court, according to court records.
