WATERLOO – Police recovered a stolen gun following a brief pursuit in Waterloo early Wednesday.
A 16-year-old male who was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle was detained on charges of carrying weapons, interference and possession of a controlled substance, police said. Per Iowa law, his name is not public.
The driver, 18-year-old Alea Quinlock Quebec Foy of 914 Randolph St., was arrested for misdemeanor eluding and possession of marijuana. She wasn’t charged in connection with the weapon.
According to police, a patrol officer attempted to stop a Chevrolet Sonic for a window tint violation around 2 a.m. in the area of Lafayette Street. The vehicle continued on, running a stoplight at Lafayette and Vinton streets and a second light on Franklin Street, according to the police report.
The Sonic pulled into a parking lot behind 424 Florence Street and stopped. Officers found marijuana inside the vehicle, and they also located a handgun, according to police. Police said the firearm had been reported stolen.
