NEW HARTFORD – A New Hartford man has been arrested after police found a snake while searching his home Wednesday.
Brian Anderson, 50, was charged with one count of illegal possession of protected non-game and one count of illegal possession of an endangered species, both misdemeanors, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Other charges are pending.
The sheriff’s office and officers from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa State Patrol searched Anderson’s home on Wednesday and found an endangered Massasuga rattlesnake and other items related to the snake. Also found was other contraband that was turned over to the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Narcotics Enforcement for further investigation.
