IOWA CITY (AP) — A jury has convicted a man of voluntary manslaughter in a shooting on the Iowa City pedestrian mall that left one person dead and two others injured.
The jury Wednesday found Lamar C. Wilson guilty of voluntary manslaughter, two counts of assault with the intent to inflict serious injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors had asked jurors to convict Wilson of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
Wilson didn't deny he fired five bullets on the crowded pedestrian mall about 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 27. The shots killed 22-year-old Kaleek Jones and injured Xavier Hicks and D'Andre Hicks.
Wilson argued he fired the shots in self-defense, saying his life was endangered.
He will be sentenced later.
