WATERLOO — A patient at a local hospital was arrested after police say she assaulted two nurses, leaving one with injuries.

Waterloo Police were called to UnityPoint-Allen Hospital, 1825 Logan Ave., on Wednesday for a report of a patient assaulting nurses.

Trisha Leigh Carnicle, 27, of Winthrop, was arrested for assault on a peace officer or persons in certain occupations causing injury, a felony, as well as assault on a peace officer or persons in certain occupations, a serious misdemeanor.

Police say Carnicle, a patient, had assaulted two nurses.

They said she pulled the hair of one nurse, threw her to the ground and started punching her in the back of her head. The nurse had minor injuries and lacerations from the assault.

The other nurse was not injured in the assault.

Carnicle is being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
