INDEPENDENCE — Attorneys for Chris Soules filed a motion with the court to allow him to travel out of state a day after he apparently traveled out of state.

Soules, who is on pretrial release pending his Nov. 7 court date on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, is prohibited from leaving Iowa without written consent from Buchanan County Court.

One of his attorneys, Brandon Brown, filed a motion April 12 in Buchanan County asking the court to approve travel for Soules on April 11.

Brown said in his motion that the county attorney did not object to the travel and that Soules provided information on his April 11 trip on Feb. 5.

Soules, 36, of rural Arlington, is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident in the April 24, 2017, crash in Buchanan County that killed 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher of Aurora.

The two-vehicle crash happened in the 1000 block of Slater Avenue north of Aurora, about a mile from Mosher’s home.

Soules waived his right to having a trial within a year, and court administrators set the trial for Nov. 7 in Buchanan County District Court in Independence.
