CHARLES CITY, Iowa --- A hearing about issues arising from prior representation of Casey Frederiksen by the Office of the Public Defender will be held at 1 p.m. Monday before Frederiksen’s arraignment for first-degree murder.
Frederiksen is charged in the murder of 5-year-old Evelyn Miller on July 1, 2005. He also faces a charge of first-degree sexual abuse.
Frederiksen, 33, was the live-in boyfriend of Evelyn's mother, Noel Miller.
Judge Colleen Weiland ordered the hearing after receiving notice from Frederiksen’s attorney, Leslie A. Dahlen, an attorney in the Mason City Division of the Office of the Public Defender.
Dahlen said the office had previously represented several of the states witnesses and others outlined in the state’s probable cause affidavit.
Frederiksen will enter a plea at his arraignment that follows the hearing at 1:30 p.m. in Floyd County District Court. He is being held on a $2 million bond in the Floyd County Jail.
Frederiksen was serving a prison term on child pornography and drug charges before he being brought back to Iowa to face the current charges.
